New First Team Manager Appointed

22nd December 2017

Cheltenham Town Ladies FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Alex Cheal as first team manager.

The news comes several weeks after the club first advertised the vacancy but chairman Andy Liddle was determined to wait for the right individual.

“It hasn’t been ideal but the Board wanted to ensure that we got the best person for the job,” an ecstatic Liddle said. “But Alex has excellent credentials and shares our ambitions for taking the club forward. We are at the halfway stage in the FA WPL and have a County Cup to defend and Alex is relishing the opportunity the season offers.”

Alex said: “The chairman contacted me to say he was looking for a new manager and that I had been suggested by a number of players who I had previously coached.”

“I have always been keen to work with Cheltenham, but time never allowed me to support in the capacity I had wanted to, but now seems like the right time.”

“I do not plan on changing a lot in the short term,” he said. “We have a superb squad and the infrastructure of the club is second to none.”

The club has been strengthened by a merger with Cheltenham Spa Girls, giving the club a thriving youth set-up and a clear pathway through to Women’s Premier League football.

“It’s an aspirational club,” Cheal said. “From the top to bottom there are a number of incredible people who want what’s best for female sport in the area.”

Cheltenham Ladies’ next game is away to Poole Town on January 14. Kick off 2pm.
