FA Provides Update on Tiers 3-6 of Women’s Football

15th March 2021

In a statement released at 2pm today (March 15), the Football Association Women’s Football Board has made a decision on the remained of the 2020/21 season.

The full statement, available here, announces that after consultation with clubs in the Tiers 3-6 Club Survey, the Grassroots Survey and the Women’s Football Conference, the 2020/21 campaign will be curtailed with immediate effect with no more league fixtures taking place.

There will also be no promotion or relegation between these tiers for the 2020/21 season, including no promotion to Tier 2 or relegation to Tier 7, however a process of “upward club movement, via application and based on set criteria” should be put in place, with further details being communicated directly to clubs in due course.

Friendly matches may return following the re-introduction of team sports after March 29, with the Women’s Football Board encouraging clubs to provide playing opportunities when they are able and comfortable to do so.

This decision means that The Robinesses’ trip to Portsmouth Women in the Women’s FA Cup could be their final fixture of the campaign, with the game set to be played behind closed doors as supporters will not be allowed to return to stadiums until May 17 under the Government’s road map to end lockdown restrictions.
