PREVIEW: Gillingham Women

4th March 2023

By Kieran Neller.

Cheltenham Ladies face Gillingham WFC in the National League Southern Premier Division on Sunday.

The two sides are yet to play each other this season, with the reverse fixture being played less than a month after the first, on 2nd April.

The game comes after a heavy week of fixtures for the Robinesses Manager Tom Davies’ players took one point from three games, including a defeat to title contenders Portsmouth.

The draw came from a midweek fixture against MK Dons, where goals from Annabel Davies and Izzy Cook helped the side win a hard-earned point under the lights.

Gillingham have had similar fortunes to Cheltenham, with the same results in their last six games (2W 1D 3L). The team lost to MK Dons on their last outing.

Cheltenham sit in 6th in the league table but are tied on 20 points with 5th place Billericay Town. The Robinesses do have a game in hand on the other team.

On the other hand, Gillingham sit 8th in the table on 17 points. A win this weekend would put them above Cheltenham on goal difference.

The game is part of a stretch of three away games that sees the Robinesses travel over 640 miles. Cheltenham’s next home game will be played at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on 18th March against London Bees.

Gillingham WFC v Cheltenham Town Ladies takes place at the Maidstone Road Sports Ground (postcode: ME4 6LR) at 2:30pm on Sunday, 5th March.
