Liggett Returns To Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town Women FC’s first signing of the summer sees the return of a familiar face.

Forward Lacy-Jai Liggett returns to The Club following a spell with fellow FA Women’s National League Southern Premier side Oxford United Women.

The strong forward returns to Cheltenham after spending two seasons away from the club with the U’s.

Talking to Gloucestershire Live, she was excited to return to the club she helped reach the Third Tier of Women’s Football.

“It feels really good to be back,” Liggett said. “It’s nice to see a few familiar faces such as Finchy (Holly Finch) and Maisy (Collis). It just feels nice to be home again.

“The training has been amazing. All the girls are very welcoming, all the new ones. I’m buzzing to be back and hopefully we’ll have a good season.”

Liggett, whose brother Brandon Ligget is a professional with Cheltenham Town FC, returns to the Robinesses having scored six goals in all competitions for Oxford last season and returns to her old stomping ground with more regular playing time being the main aim.

“[I want to] Just to get back to normal, playing good football, getting minutes and hopefully finish as high as we can in the league,” she said.

Manager Tom Davies was delighted with his first new recruit, who was part of the Cheltenham Town Women side that won the FA WNL Division One South-West and the Gloucestershire FA Women’s County Trophy in 2022.

“Lacy’s an ideal signing for us as she’s someone who epitomises how we want to play both with and without the ball,” he said.

“She’s shown everyone here what she’s capable of when she’s given the trust and freedom to express herself and I’m looking forward to watching her be successful here for a second spell.”

Cheltenham Town Women FC and Liggett are now preparing for the 2024/25 campaign and look to improve on eighth and seventh placed finishes in the FA WNL Southern Premier. For a list of the Robinesses’ fixtures, click here.
