The Determining Round of the FA Women’s National League Cup will see Cheltenham Town Women FC face Tier Four newcomers, Worcester City Women.
As a change from previous seasons, the FA Women’s National League Cup or Plate fixtures will take place during the week, to make way for more regular FA WNL league fixtures at weekends. The Determining Round has been structured to reduce travel time for clubs, and Cheltenham Town Women FC will make the trip to Sixways Stadium on Thursday 29 August (7:45pm kick-off).
The Determining Round sees teams from Tier Three and Tier Four of the women’s football pyramid enter to decide which tournament they will participate in during the 2024/25 campaign. No teams are eliminated in the Determining Round, as the winners enter into the League Cup while losers enter into the League Plate.
For the first time in the competition’s history, all clubs participating in either the FA WNL Cup or Plate will be competing for prize money.
The Robinesses have participated in both the FA WNL Cup and Plate competitions in recent seasons; in 2021/22 they reached the Plate semi-final following wins over Actonians, West Bromwich Albion and Exeter City before bowing out to Nottingham Forest. In 2022/23 they reached the Plate’s Quarter Final after beating AFC Austell, Cambridge United before a penalty-shootout loss to Crawley Wasps denied them consecutive semi-final appearances.
Last season saw Cheltenham qualify for the League Cup with a 3-0 victory over Maidenhead United before conceding a walkover to Ipswich Town.
