Cheltenham Town Ladies have added their attack with the addition of Connie Pengelly from Exeter City.
The new Robinesses striker joins the Club following back-to-back promotions in Devon, with Torquay United and The Grecians.
“It feels great and I’m really happy to be here and I’m looking forward to the new challenge!” She told Gloucestershire Live.
“I feel I’ve settled in well. The girls are a great bunch and have been so welcoming since the get go which has helped a lot. Aswell as the management and staff they’ve all been very welcoming too.”
In 2022/23, Pengelly enjoyed a promotion battle with Bristol Rovers as a Torquay player.
“It was a good experience,” she said. “I played 11 games and scored 10 which was a good feeling and topping it off with winning the league was good.”
Following this, she returned to her previous club of Exeter City, breaking into the First Team in December 2023 and helping the Grecians Women win promotion to the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier.
“It was a great experience similar to Torquay in the sense that there wasn’t room for error as if points were dropped it could have ultimately cost us the league in a two-legged race with Bournemouth,” she said.
“The whole season was a great experience with the pressure of knowing we couldn’t drop any points at all. Overall, I made 19 appearances and scored 14 which was also a great feeling.”
The striker is the second Exeter City Women’s player to join the Club during the off-season, alongside Manfy Sharpe, Exeter captain.
Having a familiar face has helped Pengelly, with the new signing commenting: “It has helped a lot as I was coming in, I didn’t really know anyone so having her there was great.
“I think it helped me settle more as Manfs had been here a couple weeks prior to me so it made it easier for me to come in as she’s a player I’ve played with for around four years and as well as her being a friend outside of football as well.”
“The whole season was a great experience with the pressure of knowing we couldn’t drop any points at all. Overall, I made 19 appearances and scored 14 which was also a great feeling.”
Tom Davies’ newest signing is already counting down the days until the season’s curtain raiser, which is just around the corner,
“I’m really excited to get going and start a new challenge,” she said.
“There are a lot of teams in this league that I’ve not played against before so it will be nice to play Plymouth but I’m excited for the challenge of playing them too.
“I’m just buzzing to get started against Argyle and to start the season again with the girls as I’ve enjoyed the two games I’ve played during pre-season so I’m ready to kick on and get started!”
Cheltenham Town Women play host to Plymouth Argyle on Sunday August 18, (2:00pm kick-off). Buy your tickets here.
